Bands for Brothers in Arms

Simcoe's Blues & Jazz, 926 Simcoe Street North, Oshawa, Ontario

Regardless of your stance on any particular war, one can't deny that those who work in the military come into contact with horrific situations. While many men and woman die in the service, we must not forget those who have endured and survived. Especially those who have survived at the cost of injury.

Bands for Brothers in Arms is an annual fundraiser to raise money for Wounded Warriors (woundedwarriors.ca). This is an organization who's primary focus is on mental health and, particularly, the staggering impact of PTSD, perpetrated by Operational Stress Injuries. Overall, however, their mandate is to help any Veteran in need as they transition to civilian life.

The show and fundraiser will take place on Fri Aug 23rd, Sat Aug 24th and Sun Aug 25th in Oshawa at Simcoe's Blues & Jazz (926 Simcoe Street North). My band and I will be playing a set as part of this fundraiser on Sun Aug 25th late afternoon. For more information, please visit http://www.bandsforbrothersinarms.org

Tickets are $10 at the door and are also available through eventbrite.

Due to the unavailability of bassist Deb Ray, we welcome back Frank Heisler on Bass who has been a past member of Wilton Said… and appears on the recording of Half Life.

Hope you can make it out to support the cause.

Thanks
Wilton

Wilton Said… and band perform excerpts from The Butterfly Plague.

The Black Swan (2nd Floor), 154 Danforth Ave just east of Broadview, Toronto , Ontario

Wilton Said… and band perform excerpts from The Butterfly Plague.
A Concept Release which takes our character through a journey of self deceit, self discovery, and self acceptance.

Join Vocalist/Keyboardist/Songwriter Wilton and his band featuring Guitarist Chris Reid, Drummer Richard Rizzo and Bassist Deb Ray for two sets of original and dynamic Progressive Art Rock music. The majority of the first set will consist of excerpts from the thought provoking release of The Butterfly Plague, while the second set will consist of some more, dare we say, upbeat stage favorites. Overall, a carnival of aural fun.

When asked why the heavy emphasis on music from this release, Wilton explains…

"It's been almost 10 years since the release of The Butterfly Plague. However the writing for that album is around 15 years old and it was a very important statement both lyrically and musically, at least to myself, that I had to make. The music was my first attempt at writing a rock opera influenced by my new love of Andrew Lloyd Webbers "Jesus Christ Superstar", hence why so much of it has recurring themes. In the end the lyrical idea for the rock opera was abandoned and I decided to look elsewhere for lyrical inspiration.
The lyrics stemmed from a variety of places such as the Timothy Finnley book The Butterfly Plague, the so called reality talk shows which proliferated T.V. (Geraldo), a recent break-up with a girl friend who wasn't really right for me and vice versa, and my own inner demons. The event which set this whole lyrical inspiration in motion was the 1996 film "The Long Kiss Goodnight" which featured Geena Davis and Samuel L. Jackson.
It wasn't until I had a more solid line up of musicians that I decided to record the whole thing which was done during the Fall and Winter of 2003/2004 with the release being in the Spring of 2004. In addition to myself on Vocals and Keys, the original recording features Chris Reid on guitar, Richard Rizzo on drums and Andrew Buntain on bass.
Now almost 10 years later I thought it would be a great thing to revisit the material and play much of it in it's running order."
